A Life Committed to De Soto
Meet the man who's dedicated his life to the place he loves most.
Rick Walker's journey began where the best stories do, right here at home. Raised in the De Soto area, Rick learned early that hard work, faith, family, and service aren't just words, they're the values that build strong communities.
From De Soto Schools to Serving De Soto
After graduating from De Soto High School, Rick earned his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Kansas—but his heart never left home. He built a respected career helping communities grow stronger, always keeping people at the center of his work.
Rick began his public service in 1999 serving two terms on the De Soto School Board. From there, he served on the De Soto Planning Commission before being elected to City Council in 2009. After nearly nine years on the Council, Rick was elected Mayor, a role he's served with distinction for two terms.
The math is simple: Over 25 years of service. One community. Countless neighbors helped.
Leadership Through Growth
As Mayor, Rick has guided De Soto through historic growth while staying true to our small-town character. He's championed:
Responsible development that happens on our terms
Community partnerships between city, schools, and local businesses
Walkable neighborhoods that bring people together
Support for seniors who built this community
Economic opportunities that benefit all residents
The Rick You Know
When Rick isn't in City Hall or attending community events, you might find him:
Playing guitar at local gatherings
Roasting coffee (a passion that brings neighbors together)
Enjoying a round of golf with friends
Spending time with his wife Monica and their sons Luke and Kyle, and his son’s wife, Samantha.
Because the best leaders never forget they're neighbors first.
A Partnership That Started in Kindergarten
Rick and Monica's love story began in a De Soto kindergarten classroom and has grown stronger with every passing year. Together, they've raised their sons Luke and Kyle in the same community they've devoted their lives to serving.
When your Mayor's roots run this deep, you know he'll never stop fighting for home.
